Zamzam Dini, Mental Health Practitioner

Master’s Level Intern

Sometimes life knocks us down and we need help finding our way. Even if some need more help than others, we all want to be treated with dignity and respect. I understand the privilege and honor it is to hear stories and witness the growth and strength I see in my clients. My goal in life is to help as many people as possible and to give my all in everything I do. While receiving my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Washington, I realized the complexity of humans and was intrigued by the similarities in our diversity. I wanted to understand the human language more but just knowing was not enough. I wanted to help people find the answers to their questions and witness the beauty of the human experience. As a current Marriage and Family Therapy graduate student at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota, I am one step closer to that dream.
I have experience working with adults as a mental health case manager, children and adolescents at a residential setting and the homeless population where I spent time at a shelter intake site. As a therapist, my goal is to meet my clients where they are and take a collaborative approach that ensures we work together as a team throughout the therapeutic process. Although I may use different interventions from many therapeutic approaches, but my therapeutic lens is primarily influenced by Bowen Family Systems theory focusing on transgenerational patterns and Family of Origin.  I also pull from Narrative theory which allows the clients to tell their stories and empowers clients to own their experiences. I strive to empower my clients with the tools of success to create meaningful self-sufficient lives they can be proud of.
