Shauna Zotalis, M.A.

I believe that human beings desire connection, a sense of belonging, and meaning in life, and oftentimes, our fear of insecurity, vulnerability, change, and the unknown prevents us from realizing these essential components of the human experience, which leads us to feeling lost or stuck. Informed by Buddhist and existential thought, I think that therapy helps us manage anxiety, create meaning, and develop better ways to connect—leading to greater self-awareness and a richer, more authentic life.

As a therapist, I use a mindfulness-based approach and have an open, nonjudgmental stance when working with clients. I have experience working with individuals, couples, families, and children on various issues and life stage challenges, including anxiety, depression, conduct, neurodevelopmental, and trauma- and stressor-related disorders, sexual identity, intimate partner violence, parenting interventions, infertility and pregnancy issues, grief and loss, and abuse and sexual violence.

As a member of a blended family myself, I am passionate about working with individuals, couples, families, and children affected by divorce and remarriage and/or are a part of a nontraditional family. I am also experienced in directional and non-directional play therapy with children as young as age 4 and am passionate about working with children through their language of play. I received my Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota and Bachelor’s degree in English Literature and Women’s Studies from the University of California, Los Angeles.

In therapy, I aim to collaborate with my clients to help them realize the change needed in their lives to get unstuck and live their most authentic life.

Shauna specializes in play therapy, blended and non traditional families, divorce and remarriage, working with children in foster system and with history of sexual abuse, and mindfulness based therapy.
