Dionne Trice, Master Level Intern
Master’s Level Intern
From very early in life, I have been interested in exploring how our life stories are shaped by our experiences and the meanings we make of them. Thereby, becoming the building blocks by which we construct the next chapter in life.
For nearly 20 years I worked with families and individuals experiencing domestic violence. I’ve worked as an advocate, intake worker, one-to-one, and senior facilitator of support groups. All of it was very rewarding work, be it with perpetrators or victims. Over the years I have grown in my understanding about the impact of trauma and loss, including ambiguous and disenfranchised losses, and how these losses impact our engagement with the world and systems around us. However, it was my earlier work as a youth minister that began my understanding of the importance of family systems and change.
After experiencing additional life transitions and the loss of a child I decided to transition to Marriage and Family therapy. Through our own experiences and as I encountered other mother’s and listened to their stories, it strengthened my desire to learn more and provide individuals and families with a collaborative, non-judgmental, safe, secure and empowering environment in which they could define, develop and establish skills, support systems and narratives that are optimal for them.
I received my Bachelors of Arts in Psychology and a minor in Family Studies from Metropolitan State University. I am presently an advanced graduate student in the Marriage and Family Therapy Masters degree program at St. Mary’s University of Minnesota. I have been married for over 33 years and am the mother of three, with three grands. I am a lover of poetry, theater, dance, foreign films, cartoons/anime/comics, video games and boxing. There isn’t much that I don’t find worthy of curious exploration; so let’s explore together.
I am available for individual, couple and family therapy, and I keep several open appointments each week for new clients.
